Differentiate for Every Student’s Needs With Accommodations on Wayground

At Wayground, we recognize that every student can thrive if their unique learning needs are supported. And that is why we are pleased to introduce Accommodation! 

With this feature, you can provide specific accommodations to students in your class. This means you can save time by assigning the same Wayground task to your whole class while ensuring you provide compliant scaffolded experiences for your students.

How Accommodations work

Let’s say you’re assigning a Wayground session to your math class. With Accommodations, you can differentiate instruction within your class such that:

1. Sue and Derik receive an extra 30 seconds while answering questions, 
2. Jamal has the Read Aloud feature enabled, 
3. Sanjay, Beth, and Jon see reduced answer choices, 
4. Ola, Ria, and Shankar can access reading mode during lessons and adjust font sizes and themes,

and the remaining students in your class will experience the session with regular session settings.

You can assign a student as many Accommodations as needed. These accommodation settings will be saved for future reuse and can always be edited and modified.

How to assign Accommodations to students 

You can assign Accommodations to your students in three ways:

• from the Accommodations tab on the left navigation pane
• before starting/assigning a session
• while managing your Classes

Once you have set up Accommodations for your students, you can reuse these settings for every activity you assign them without having to set them up again.

1. 1. Click on the Accommodations tab from the left navigation pane
   2. From the left side of your screen, select the student(s) you would like to support with Accommodations 
      
      
      
      
   3. From the right side of your screen, select the accommodations you want to assign the selected students
   4. Click on 'Save Changes'
      
      
      
      
   5. To assign Accommodations to the remaining students, unselect the selected students
   6. Then, select the student(s) you would like to support with a different set of Accommodations by repeating the steps 2, 3, and 4
   7. You can view which students have been assigned which Accommodation by using the search box to find specific students, filtering the list of students by the classes they're part of, or which Accommodations have been assigned to them
      
      
      
   8. You can also set up recommended Accommodations based on data shared by your Clever admin, Accommodations set by other teachers in your school or district for the same students, or by student activity
      
      
      
      
      
2. 1. Select the Wayground resource (Assessment/Quiz, Lesson, Passage, Flashcards, etc.) you want to start a live session for or assign to your students
   2. From the left side of your screen, toggle on () the 'Accommodations' option
   3. Click on ‘Assign’ or 'Start now’
   4. This will open the Accommodations page on your screen
      
      
      
      
   5. From the left side of your screen, select the student(s) you would like to support with Accommodations 
   6. From the right side of your screen, select the accommodations you want to assign the selected students
   7. Click on 'Save Changes'
   8. To assign accommodations to the remaining students, unselect the selected students
      Then, select the student(s) you would like to support with a different set of accommodations by repeating the steps 5, 6, and 7
      
      
      
      
   9. You can view which students have been assigned which Accommodation by using the search box to find specific students, filter the list of students by the classes they're part of, or which Accommodations have been assigned to them
      
      
      
      
   10. Once you have assigned the desired Accommodations to your students, click on ‘Continue’ 
   11. Review and modify the remaining session settings
       
       
       
       
   12. Click on ‘Assign’ or 'Start,' and you’re all set! Once your class joins the session selected students will experience the session based on the Accommodations assigned to them, and the remaining students will experience it with default settings
   13. You can also set up recommended Accommodations based on data shared by your Clever admin, Accommodations set by other teachers in your school or district for the same students, or by student activity
       
       
3. 1. Navigate to the 'Classes' tab on the left sidebar
   2. Choose the specific Class
   3. Click 'Add Accommodations' or 'Modify Accommodations'
      
      
      
      
   4. This will open the Accommodations page on your screen
   5. From the left side of your screen, select the student(s) you would like to support with Accommodations 
   6. From the right side of your screen, select the accommodations you want to assign the selected students
   7. Click on 'Save Changes'
   8. To assign accommodations to the remaining students, unselect the selected students
   9. Then, select the student(s) you would like to support with a different set of accommodations by repeating the steps 5, 6, and 7
      
      
      
      
   10. You can also set up recommended Accommodations based on data shared by your Clever admin, Accommodations set by other teachers in your school or district for the same students, or by student activity
       
       

    

   Once you set up these Accommodations for a Class, you can reuse these settings for every activity you assign to that Class!

How to share and sync Accommodations with other teachers

You can now work with other teachers in your school or district to easily manage and assign Accommodations to students. Once a teacher shares access with you, you’ll be able to:

• Set up or edit Accommodations for their students

• Share your own Accommodations dashboard with them

• Sync updates so changes appear across all shared dashboards

Note: 

• To work together, a teacher must first share access with you by adding your email
• You both need to be part of the same organization (same email domain)
• Once shared, you can edit each other’s Accommodations and sync updates across your dashboards

To share access to your dashboard with another teacher,

1. Click on the 'Share access' button
2. Enter the email address(es) of the teacher(s) you want to invite
3. Check the box for 'I consent to sharing my students' data with these teacher(s)'
4. Click on 'Share'. Now, they will be able to assign Accommodations to your students
   
   

To access the dashboards of teachers who have granted you access,

1. Click on the teacher's profile for whom you're setting Accommodations. You'll find the list on the left side of your screen, and hover over a profile to view their names. Alternatively, you can expand the view by clicking on the arrow () button
   
   
   
   
2. Assign Accommodations following the steps above
3. Click on 'Save changes'
   
   

To apply and sync these Accommodations across the dashboards shared with you,

1. Click on 'Apply to other teachers'
2. Select the teacher(s) whose dashboard(s) you want to sync with the Accommodation changes you've made 
3. Click on 'Apply'
   
   

View Accommodations in reports 

Once your Wayground resource is assigned to your student, you can view the results for each participant in the report. Additionally, you can view results per the Accommodations. 

Select your report and click on the ‘Accommodations’ tab. This will display the accuracy percentage and completion rate for each Accommodation profile.  

FAQ

Q. Why am I seeing 'Conflicting Accommodations'?

A. When you select multiple students who have been assigned different Accommodations, the Accommodation settings will conflict with each other. This means that the selected students have been assigned different Accommodations and not common ones. To resolve this:

• Click on 'Edit' on the 'Conflicting Accommodations' pop-up, and proceed to remove existing  Accommodations assigned to the selected students 
• Then, proceed to assign the selected students' Accommodations from the beginning 
  
  
  
  
• Additionally, ensure that you unselect previously selected students when assigning new Accommodations to the rest of your students to avoid 'Conflicting Accommodations'
